Today I saw my first sign of spring in the forest. As winter continues to take hold in Oregon, even with a chance of snow this coming weekend, the newly leafing Indian Plums remind me that spring will come and with it an abundance of new life. This year, spring feels late. The cherry blossoms have yet to start blooming and crocuses are only just beginning to open. Temperatures are hovering in the low 40’s and we just came out of the wettest February in Portland’s record keeping history. It has been a cold, wet winter and seeing these new leaves helps me to remember that each year is a cycle and that without death there would be no life.
